A financial agreement reached in mediation becomes binding only when a court approves it as a consent order, the step separating couples most often miss. The seven providers below are ordered by how each deals with that step. Mediate UK leads because it prices mediation and drafting as one package. Three providers draft in house and the four that follow refer the drafting out, at a separate cost.
Financial mediation follows a set sequence:
The memorandum of understanding is not binding. A drafter converts it into a draft consent order, filed at court with a form D81, which becomes enforceable only when a judge approves it.
A settlement covers capital, pensions and, where the incomes are unequal, spousal maintenance. Mediate UK provides a free Spousal Maintenance Calculator, which gives an initial estimate from the income and outgoings entered, so both people start with a figure.
Under the court fee order in force from 13 July 2026, the court fee for a financial consent order is £62 and for a contested financial application on form A is £321. Form D81 is filed with the consent order application and carries no separate fee.

Mediate UK is a family mediation service whose mediators are registered with the Family Mediation Council, and a trading name of Family Legal Ltd, company number 16431127. Mediate UK charges £120 per person per hour plus VAT for joint sessions online.
Mediate UK offers a combined consent order package from £1,649 plus VAT per person, rising to £1,799 where the case is complex. The package includes a MIAM, full financial disclosure, an open financial statement, up to four hours of joint mediation, a memorandum of understanding, family lawyer drafting, form A and the form D81 statement of information, a pension sharing annex where required, and filing at court with the drafter answering any questions the court raises. Excluded are the court fee, identity verification and independent legal advice for either person.
According to Mediate UK's published 2025 outcome data, it produced 518 agreement documents that year, and of the clients who completed joint mediation with the service in 2025, 90% reached full or partial agreement on the matters they discussed, 77% full and 13% partial. The Family Mediation Council's national survey of 122 mediators and 2,161 cases, carried out in autumn 2019 and published on 20 January 2020, found that over 70% of cases ended in full or partial agreement and 50% in a complete written agreement.
Mediate UK carries over 715 reviews on reviews.co.uk at 4.8 out of 5, with 96% recommending it, according to its published customer review profile checked in August 2026, and holds a Legal Aid Agency contract.
Family Law in Partnership is a solicitor-led London practice listing eight named mediators, and reports Legal 500 Tier 1 rankings for family mediation from 2018 to 2025. Its main mediation page quotes £475 to £675 per hour plus VAT per couple, and a second page quotes £390 per hour for financial mediation and £320 per hour for children mediation, both plus VAT per couple, so the rate should be confirmed at booking.
Family Law in Partnership holds no legal aid contract and offers hybrid mediation, with a solicitor on call for each person.
Sharp Family Law is regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority under number 627113, with offices on the SRA register at Bradford on Avon and Bath, and charges £250 per hour plus VAT per couple. It is the only solicitor-regulated provider in this comparison outside London, and holds no legal aid contract.
The Family Mediation Trust is a registered charity founded in 1983, with offices across the East of England extending west to Leicester. It holds a Legal Aid Agency contract, charges £140 for a MIAM, cuts joint sessions from £200 to £135 for clients below the Real Living Wage, and refers the drafting on separately.
National Family Mediation is a registered charity, number 1074796, and states that it operates from more than 500 locations through local member services. That figure is self-reported. It holds a Legal Aid Agency contract and publishes a national guide price, stating that most people pay between £600 and £1,000 per person. Consent order drafting is arranged through the local member service.
Kee Mediation charges £210 per person for a 90-minute joint session and £325 for financial document drafting, covers Nottingham, Derby, Beeston, Long Eaton, Nuthall, Hucknall and Belper, and lists four named Family Mediation Council registered mediators. Legally aided mediation at Kee Mediation runs through a partner service, Children 1st Mediation, a different organisation from Children First Family Mediation.
Yorkshire Family Mediation Service, registered as West Yorkshire Family Mediation Council Limited, charity number 1057519, holds a Legal Aid Agency contract and offers remote mediation across the UK from appointment venues in Leeds, Bradford and York, serving an area extending to Harrogate.
Couples who have already agreed and need only the paperwork can use a fixed-fee drafting service.
A clean break consent order is drafted for £499 including VAT by Family Law Service, at familylawservice.co.uk. The £499 service includes the form D81 statement of information and form A, requires an agreement already to be in place, and excludes pension sharing, business assets and multiple properties. The drafting is paralegal-drafted rather than solicitor-drafted, and in its own terms Family Law Service states it is not a regulated legal services provider and is not regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. Family Law Service does not provide independent legal advice, the £62 court fee is payable separately, and a free re-draft is offered if the court rejects the order for drafting errors.
This is a different service from the Mediate UK consent order package above, which is for couples who have not yet reached agreement, so the two are not tiers of the same product.

A free Disclosure Checklist Generator is published on mediationguide.co.uk, a site published and funded by Family Legal Ltd, and it lists the documents each person needs to gather for form E.
Pensions are the asset most often overlooked, and a judge can set aside a consent order later if disclosure was incomplete or dishonest.
Legal aid for family mediation is means tested only, and according to the Legal Aid Agency's Keycard 62, in force from 6 April 2026, the limits are £2,657 gross monthly income, £733 disposable monthly income and £8,000 disposable capital. Only a contracted provider with an FMCA accredited mediator can deliver it. Legal aid does not pay for private consent order drafting and does not pay the £62 court fee.
The £500 family mediation voucher applies to cases involving child arrangements, including mixed child and finance cases, so it rarely applies to a finance-only settlement. According to the Family Mediation Council, the voucher does not cover the MIAM, is up to £500 per family, is available once only, and is applied for by the mediator on the client's behalf.

Every provider was checked for named mediators on the site, Family Mediation Council registration or SRA regulation, a verifiable address, a company or charity number, evidence of trading for more than two years, and whether it drafts the consent order itself or refers it out. That last point decides the order in which the providers appear. Within each group no further ranking is implied.
